Development Project Manager

Blueberry Consultants Ltd is a highly technical, innovative and professional software development company. We design custom software for corporate and mid-size clients and our sister company, Blueberry Software, sells our web and PC software products worldwide.

Owned and managed by ex-developers, the company has a very wide technical skills base and an entrepreneurial culture. We value low-level technical expertise and a pragmatic approach – but still have a strong interest in new technologies and approaches.

Blueberry is looking to take on an experienced development manager to work with clients and lead a development team. The work is varied, technically challenging and includes both client-server and web-based systems development.

Position Requirements

We are ideally seeking people with development experience, such as:
  • A 2:1 or better degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related subject.
  • 5 years post-graduate experience of professional software development including C++ or C# languages and SQL Server experience.

But less technical applicants will be considered. Blueberry’s development managers are expected to:

  • Advise, liaise and negotiate with customers to determine requirements.
  • Design and plan software implementation.
  • Direct and review the work of the programming team.
  • Ensure the development team meets milestones and deadlines.
  • Attend progress meetings with current and prospective clients across the UK.
  • Write proposals for potential customers.

The successful candidate will have considerable hands-on development experience, and will be able to work independently. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

We work with many modern technologies including Angular JS, .NET C#, DevExpress, Bootstrap, MS SQL Server etc. We develop software for Web, Windows, iOS and Android.  We use Amazon EC2 extensively.

We work with customers of varying technical levels.  As a result, we do not have a fixed internal methodology - we are agile by nature but development managers have flexibility to establish their own working practices.

Working Culture

Our company environment is informal but professional. The management structure is flat, there are no internal politics, and we strive to make our working environment as friendly and relaxed as possible.

GBP 35,000 to GBP 45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Working Hours

This is a full time position based at Blueberry HQ in Digbeth, central Birmingham. Home working is a possibility, although attendance at the office is preferred.

Work patterns are based around a 37.5 hour working week, typically 9-5 Monday to Friday, but we are happy to discuss flexible working. Please note that at manager level, some unpaid overtime is expected during busy periods.
